Regenerating Communities: Housing and Regeneration

The Voluntary and Community Sector’s Role in Delivering Housing Regeneration Solutions

The West Midlands Voluntary and Community Sector Housing Network
commissioned this report. It aims, through two case studies, to: -
• Explore how housing contributes to regenerating communities;
• Examine voluntary and community sector practice within the housing
arena and promote exemplar work;
• Define regional actions or policy that will create the environment where
voluntary and community sector solutions can be applied.
The first case study focuses on the Dorcas Housing construction industry
training and employment initiative. The second case study focuses on the role
of the Rural Housing Enabler in delivering affordable rural housing. The
Housing Enabler is employed by Community First and the work forms part of
the rural renaissance agenda. The two case studies were selected to reflect
the diversity of the sector. Diversity in the type of contribution of the sector to
the housing regeneration agenda, and diversity in the type of voluntary and
community organisations involved.
